PRP Therapy
What are PRP treatments?
Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is an effective cosmetic injectable treatment to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and support your natural skin structure. This is due to its ability to naturally rejuvenate the skin and repair the signs of ageing by using our own platelet rich blood cells.
PRP is a form of cosmetic injectable treatment that uses the client’s own platelet rich plasma. The plasma component contains stem cells and growth rich platelets. When injected back into the skin, it accelerates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin to provide overall skin rejuvenation.
How does it work?
Firstly, a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area that will be treated. Our clinician will draw a small sample of blood. This is then spun in a centrifuge for approximately five minutes to separate the plasma from the other blood particles. Lastly, the platelet rich plasma is then reinjected back into the treatment area, stimulating collagen and elastin production.
What does it do?
PRP offers several benefits. The treatment can improve skin texture and tone, reduce fine lines and scarring, and stimulate collagen and skin cell production for a plumper, more radiant complexion.
Am I suitable for this treatment?
PRP is great for anyone who is concerned by areas of skin that are starting to lose elasticity and volume. This treatment stimulates your body’s cells to produce new, healthy-looking skin. It is extremely effective for the delicate area under the eye where signs of ageing start to appear and where lasers can’t be used. It is also used to increase the structural integrity and health of the skin, particularly sun damaged skin.
What are the benefits?
IT PROVIDES TOTAL REJUVENATION
PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production which thickens and tightens thinning skin, effectively smoothing wrinkles and fine lines. Because it boosts collagen, it’s also a great treatment for improving overall skin texture and tone. It’s particularly good for people who suffer from rosacea or acne.
IT TREATS DELICATE AND DIFFICULT TO REACH AREAS
PRP is extremely effective for treating difficult to treat areas, such as the delicate under eye area where clients often notice signs of ageing first but where no laser can be used.
IT’S A NATURAL TYPE OF COSMETIC INJECTABLE
PRP uses your own natural elements without the addition of any foreign products. The treatment works by drawing a small sample of your blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge for approximately five minutes to separate the plasma from the other blood particles. The platelet rich plasma is then reinjected back into the treatment area to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
IT’S SAFE
Because it uses your own natural elements, PRP is very safe. It’s also not a new treatment. It’s long been recognised and used in the hospital system and in sports medicine for its effective wound healing properties since the 1970s.
RESULTS ARE LONG-LASTING
Results from PRP take between three to four weeks to appear but are long-lasting, typically lasting 12 to 18 months after an initial series of three treatments.
Is it safe?
PRP treatment is considered safe and well-tolerated when trained professionals use sterile techniques and high-quality PRP kits. As with any medical procedure, potential risks and side effects will be discussed during the consultation, ensuring patients have realistic expectations and understand the treatment process.
What areas can be treated?
PRP is effective at rejuvenating: Skin around the eyes
Face and cheeks
Hands
Décolletage
Neck
Hair Thinning (6 treatments required)
Are there any side effects?
PRP used for aesthetic procedures are safe for most individuals. There are very few contraindications with PRP injections.
The most common side effects associated with PRP injections are mild to moderate swelling and redness.
Does it hurt?
Some mild discomfort may be felt while the PRP is being reinjected. The sensation typically felt is a burning or tingling sensation. This sensation only lasts a few minutes after the PRP injected.
We ensure our patients are comfortable throughout the entire PRP treatment and apply topical numbing cream and ice to aid any discomfort.
How long does it last?
Results can be seen after one treatment, but the exact amount of treatments needed varies from patient to patient.
Generally, 2‐3 treatments are advised, but more may be indicated for some individuals.
Aftercare
Immediately following the procedure, the most commonly reported temporary side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, tingling, numbness, lumpiness, and/or a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sites and/or in the treated area(s).
Cold gel packs/ice may be applied immediately after treatment to reduce swelling.
To Maximize Results and Prevent Complications:
Avoid scrubbing the injection sites for at least 4 hours. However, makeup may be applied immediately after, if desired.
Starting on the evening of the treatment and for the next several days; wash your face gently with a mild cleanser once to twice daily. After several days, you may return to your regular skin care routine.
Downtime
There is no downtime associated PRP injections; However, after your treatment, your skin may be red. This is normal and to be expected. Redness usually lasts from one to 24 hours. You may also have a little swelling in some areas.
Due to this, some patients like to be treated towards the end of
the week, so they have the weekend to recover. Healing time varies from patient to patient.
